Highlights from North West neuro event

November 26th 2015 ...in category Commissioning Excellence

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about our fifth Neurology Network Commissioning Event held near Manchester. All in all it was a great day and here a few of the highlights for me.

The event was chaired by Dr Mark Kellett, Strategic Clinical Network lead for neurology, who opened the meeting with an overview of the workstreams the SCN is prioritising. Dr David Bateman, National Clinical Director for Adult Neurology Conditions for NHS England, urged attendees to take a more collaborative approach to neurology commissioning as well as utilising data to help understand how services are currently performing.

Dr Adam Zermansky, consultant neurologist at Greater Manchester Neuroscience Centre, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, highlighted the headache guidelines that have been developed locally and urged CCGs to utilise these.

The final session of the day was a thought provoking presentation on transition issues by Dr Christian DeGoede, consultant paediatric neurologist. Whilst the work he and colleagues have done on transition is around paediatrics and adolescent health the ideas presented apply across multiple conditions and age groupings as well as transitioning off treatments.

Keep an eye on our events pages for forthcoming Network Events and see the presentations from this meeting on NHS Networks.
